  'Dammit!'

The light brown female chipmunk cursed herself as she sat in her chair and stared
into the mirror with eyes full of malice and rage. She continued to violently brush
her dark auburn hair-desperately trying to find any sort of solace from the pain she
was trying to escape. The chipmunk continued to mumble darkly to herself until a
piece of her hair got caught in the brush. She began pulling at it furiously until a
large piece of her hair was yanked out.

"Dammit!" the princess of Metropolis shrieked.

The princess shattered the mirror into pieces as she kept her hairbrush tightly
welded within her hand; she glared venomously at the reflection that was her. Sudden
realization struck her as fast as lightning. Sally nearly jumped out of her chair
before regaining her composure; she quietly slid back into the smooth wooden chair
as she placed her palm over her swollen abdomen. As she cafefully stroked the area
where her future child was located, a single tear began to build as she recounted
those painful weeks she had expierenced. "Dear Gaia," Sally whispered to
herself. "Why did this have to happen..."

The ebony-colored hedgehog stalked through the forest as he continously lashed out
at anything that came this way; the anger that was building up inside of him was
close to toppling over and he didn't know what would happen after that. It has been
almost a week since Shadow had last seen his wife and he knew it was killing, both
hm, and her. When he finally got the chance to see her again, things got only worse.
Dammit! The black and red hedgehog cursed to himself. The black and red hedgehog
came to a stop as he stood in the center of the forest: the area was quiet, the wind
was lifeless, and the moon shone down on him; it was there that he began
contemplating on how this all happened.

"How could you allow this to happen!" her father, former King Maximillian Acorn,
shouted with venom, clearly visible. The five of them: the former king, his wife,
Alicia, his son, Elias Acorn, Sally, and himself, sat in the confines of a meeting
room, where he and Sally were waiting for our punishment-apparently having the
secret being exposed in public by Black Doom and having her forced out of their home
in the middle of broad daylight-with onlookers-wasn't punishment enough; although
part of him saw the justification to this, the hedgehog couldn't help but feel
uncontrollable rage build up inside of him..

"Do you know the predictament you have just put yourself in," her father continued
to yell at her; which, surprisingly enough, didn't seem to have any effect on her at
all. "What were you thinking when you even agreed to this? How could do this to
yourself? How could you-"

"Does it really matter?" Sally asked flatly, but defiantly. "What's happened, has
happended-there's no going back now!"

At that moment, I really didn't know what was more shocking: Sally's violent mood-
swing/outburst or the silence that befell the room; if the former king wasn't
coughing uncontrollably, things would have gotten even louder.

"Sally Alicia Acorn!" her mother, Alicia Acorn, snapped at her daughter. "Don't
you dare speak that way toward your father!"

The princess turned her icy glare toward her mother, but said nothing. When the
tension began to drop a bit, the former queen of Metropolis took a deep breath
before turning toward her daughter. "Sally," she began. "I don't know what you were
thinking when you did, what who did and I don't care-all I know is that you hurt us
when you began hiding secrets from us."

Shadow saw the hurt in Sally's eyes' as she slowly shifted her eyes toward the
ground.

"I thought we raised you better than this; we warned you not to pursue this
relationship because we knew nothing good would come from it." she cast a not-so-
apologetic-look toward me, before continuing. "But know that you done this to
yourself..."

Sally's mother looked tired and weary; she could've fooled him.

"Do you know of the embarrassment you have just placed on this family?" her father
pressed on.

That was when the black hedgehog finally had enough. "Yes, I guess mentally
destroying your daughter in public  while she's entering her seventh month stage of
pregnancy isn't embarrassing enough!"

Everyone-excluding Sally-cast hateful glares toward the ultimate life form, but he
really didn't care right now; they were putting their own daughter down, so he was
going to put them down.

  "You stay out of this!"

Instead, Shadow countered the former king's glare with his own. "It's best that
you admit the shame you feel toward us, instead of just hiding it from us," he said
flatly. "It's not good for your health."

"Shadow...the...Hedgehog..." Maximillian growled. The anger that burned in his
eyes was equivalent to the color that was appearing on his face: red-blood red-
crimson-colored red. "How dare you-"

"How dare you!" The black hedgehog barked. "You've treated your own daughter as if
she was a diesease," Shadow held one finger up as Alicia was about to object. "She
made-we both made a mistake, and you act as if it was a haneous act!" His fur was
bristling and his teeth were baring as he continued to gaze menacingly toward his
two startled in-laws.

  "Shadow."

The black hedgehog's crimson eyes fell toward Elias, his king and brother-in-law.
He was the only one not to speak; Shadow soon found his spikes prickling as he
watched and listened to what his "brother" had to say.

  "Please, sit down."

Shadow was almost completely bewildered by Elias's calm tone, but still didn't he
would comply.

"I would prefer standing, if you don't mind." he stated.

Apparently, Elias did mind: his blue eyes blazed with fury and his body shifted
uncomfortably as he tried to stop his fur from bristling; and Shadow could already
see the need for a fight lingering on the king's face.

"Shadow.." Elias said calmly, but darkly. "Sit...down...now!"

Shadow could already feel the king reaching for his sword, but he still refused to
back down; if he wanted a fight the black hedgehog was willing to apply. He was
about to accept the challenge when a familiar hand grabbed his. When he turned, he
could see blazing blue eyes gazing directly at him.

  "Sally..."

A mixture of rage and sorrow was shown as Shadow continued to stare into the eyes
of his wife. "Shadow," she said at last. "Sit down..." The black hedgehog willing
obeyed, but was still bitter about it. Elias pulled away from his sword and
continued to stare at the two.

"Shadow...Sally..." Elias finally spoke. "The reason I called you here is not just
because of this," he stated, pointing directly at the princess's swollen
abdomen. "It's because of the fact that you both lied to not only us, but the entire
kingdom. You even tried to cover it up-and worse- you brought a few of my knights'
involved!"

The black hedgehog could clearly see Sally forcing herself not to make a remark.
He soon found himself remembering the few people who willingly chose to help them
and keep this quiet: Bunnie, Antoine, Knuckles...even Sonic and Amy. Shadow soon
found himself wrapped in guilt at the thought of breaking the promise he kept to
Bunnie: 'If I find out that Sal gets hurt 'cause of you, I'll beat ya down till
you're nothin' but paste!'

"This can't go undone," Elias continued to speak-bringing Shadow back to his
senses. "I don't want to, but you both have to be punished." Shadow you've called
him out on the feeling of saddness he felt toward him and Sally, but decided it
wouldn't be such a good idea.

"So tell me, are being punished by the king, himself, or the future uncle of our
children?" Shadow smirked.

Sally just sighed as she placed a her hand over her eyes. Maximillian and Alicia
looked bewildered at the black hedgehog's sudden calmness. Elias quickly dismissed
the comment, but still had his teeth gritted and facing toward Shadow.

"I have thought this long and hard, and have decided on what will happen to you
both." the tension in the room began to rise as the moment of truth came cloer and
closer: anexiety and fear began to suffocate the couple as there punishment was
about to unfold. When Eliase looked directly into the eyes of the two, a faint smile
appeared across his muzzle.

"Your punishment shall be...nothing." Elias stated flatly.

Sally opened her eyes as the memories of what just happened vanished; she placed
her hand over eyes at the thought of being embarrassed like that. Sally knew that
the only reason Elias did that was to embarrass her and Shadow-which, in a sense,
was punishment enough. All she wanted to do right then was leave, go back to her
room, and just forget about that day, but of curse, it didn't happen: After she and
Shadow were dismissed, Shadow got into an argument with Elias, which ended up
causing him to talk down to her father and punching her brother to the ground.
Afterwards, he stormed out of the room and teleported somewhere else; he didn't seem
to even notice her cries-he just left her there...all alone.

A knock from the door nearly startled the chipmunk, but she began to relax.

"Sally," a familiar voice called to her. "Are you in there?"

The chipmunk wanted nothing more but to open that door so she be in the arms of
the hedgehog she loves, but her wouldn't allow her so; instead, she took another
approach.

  "Go away, Shadow!" she screamed.

Sally could hear the hedgehog grunt from outside-she could already imagine the
charcoal-colored hedgehog desperately trying to remain calm and not lose his temper.
Shadow began knocking on the door again, but this time with more force.

"Sally," Shadow spoke calmly, but sternly. "Please, open the door."

Sally didn't answer-instead, she just sat there, gazing into the broken mirror
with a bitter look on her face.

"Sally!" Shadow barked from the outside of their room. "Open the door now or I'm
busting it down!"

The princess let out an annoyed sigh but refused to to budge from her spot. "It's
open." she rasped.

The hedgehog strolled into the room and was almost schocked to see the destruction
and mess that filled the room. He turned his crimson iris toward his wife who was
staring darkly into the broken mirror.

  "Redecorating, I see?" Shadow chuckled.

"What do you want?" Sally whispered venomously.

"We need to talk." he answered.

Sally turned her dark eyes toward her lover and continued to glare at him for a
minute before speaking. "There's nothing I feel like discussing with you!" she spoke
darkly.

Shadow obviously didn't take that tone well: He walked toward her-ignoring her
threats-grabbed her shoulders and forced her to look directly into his eyes. "Now
you listen to me," he began. "I don't know what your problem is, but it's starting
to become much of a nuisance! If your going to start hating me, then at least tell
me why."

The black hedgehog saw the chipmunk's bend down and could have sworn he heard
mumbling cries, but he refused to back away now. "Well? Tell me!" he asked again,
but with more force.

  This time, Sally's eyes shot up and stared directly into the hedgehog's very own;
the hedgehog was surprised to see so much mixed emotion spiraling deep inside his
own wife.

"You really want to know," she whispered. "The reason I'm like this because of one
thing: You!"

The black hedgehog looked startled-almost hurt-at his wife's outburst, but tried
to hide it. "Me!"

"Today was the most embarrassing thing I've ever experienced in my entire life,
and you just went and made it worse-were you even thinking!"

It took Shadow only minutes to gather this piece of information in and he had to
admit: she did have a point.

"If this has to do with what happened earlier on, then I'm-"

"This has to do with more then just what happened earlier!" Sally cut her husband
off. "It's goes farther then that!"

"Then what is it?" Shadow was determined to know.

"For the past week you didn't even bother to see me-you didn't even try to stop
those guards when they dragged me out of our home like some crimminal!" Sally
blurted out.

The room went quiet after that. The tension that once clouded the room had
vanished and the two lovers were left alone to do battle with their own thoughts.

Shadow was the first to break the silence. "I didn't know..."

  "No," Sally agreed. "You didn't."

Another minute had passed before Sally could continue speaking. "Being locked up
in your own room isn't something to crack up on, you know; always wondering if your
knight is coming to save you or not, and carry you away to live happily ever after;
like a fairytale little girls listen to." Shadow turned to see his wife leaning on
the wall with a look of hurt plastered on her face. "When you didn't show up, I
almost lost faith in you-as if you weren't going to save me. And then you told my
father that what we did was a "mistake", I...I..."

She couldn't bring herself to say anymore. After months of trying to stay strong-
trying to control her emotions-and trying to look cheerful-Sally allowed herself to
fall on her knees and cry. Shadow immediately rushed to her side and instinctively
wrapped his hands around his wife. As the ultimate life form gazed at the chipmunk
who continued to weep, he notice the symbol that still remained on her shoulder: the
black arm symbol. At that very instant, Shadow's heart was nearly ripped in two at
the thought of how badly the chipmunk was suffering.

'How could I be so foolish!' Shadow thought. 'She's been suffering more than I
have been and yet, she still had the courage to press on. What a fool I've been.'
Shadow began instinctively comforting his wife: brushing her hair, drying the tears
from her face, etc. When Sally saw the hurt expression that still lingered on his
face, she couldn't help but bury herself deeper inside of his white chest fur so he
wouldn't be able to hear her cries.

"Oh, Shadow," Sally began to whimper. "I was so afraid that you didn't want to be
with me!"

Shadow was rendered speechless as to what she just said. He wanted to speak, but
Sally wouldn't let him-instead, he was force to listen to her confessions. "I was
afraid that you didn't want to be bothered with having to care for the baby! I was
scared that would forget me! I was afraid that...I would be alone again..."

Tears began to streak down the princess's cheeks as she continued to rant about
the fears she was afraid to face. Before she could say anymore, her face was greeted
with the touch of soft white gloves and crimson-colored eyes beeming down at her.
The warmth radiating from Shadow's eyes ceased anymore tears from escaping the
princess's body and instead, began giving her more courage then she originally felt.

"Sally," Shadow whispered. "I would never think about leaving you or our offspring
alone like that." Sally's blue eyes began to light up at the sound of her husband's
words'. "You are my wife, my love-you're my everything. When we made our vowes
toward one another, I made a commitment toward you, and I intend to keep true to
that promise."

The brown chipmunk could already feel tears streaking down her face as she
continued to look directly into the black hedgehog's eyes.

"I want you to always remember this: I will always be there for you." Before she
could say anything Shadow had swiftfully placed his lips on hers and the passion and
blissfulness that had remained shrouded for so long came into being; the loneliness,
anger, and sorrow that was there disappeared, and all that remained was the love and
joy that was being expressed between the two lovers.

Sally had already fallen asleep in Shadow's arms by the time he had placed her in
bed. A smile crept on the ultimate life form's muzzle as he continued to gaze at his
wife, sleeping like an angel. The hegehog knew there would still be some uneasy
times they would have to face in the future, but Shadow was determined to see it
through, with the company of his wife. 'I will always be there for you.' The black
hedgehog made a sacred promise to himself and his family, and he was determined to
keep that promise alive.

Shadow placed his hand softly on his wife's swollen belly and smiled at the
thought of becoming a father.

"Just remember," he whispered. "I will always be there for your mother and you."

Shadow was surprised at the reply he received-not one, but two kicks coming from
Sally's belly; as if it were two instead of one.
Like all marriages, they have their ups and downs; espiceally if a baby is envolved. But if that couple have a strong enough bond, then they can overcome those obstacles. I chose to put Shadow and Sally in a predicament like that to prove that idea.
