   'This is Hephaestus, speaking. If anyone, excluding myself, are listening to this recording, then I am currently inactive. I wish to apologize in advance for what you are about to hear but I did this with the intention of protecting our race and the mortals from us. After careful studies within the human plane and the celestial plane, I came to a realization; the mortals are beginning to turn away from us, while the lesser deities, especially us, are showing signs of misuse. Unless something is done and quick, then our being will come to an end. Thus, I have been developing a weapon that is meant to neutralize (if not, severely harm) us, in the case that we become a threat to the people and Gaia. Please understand when I say that I bear no desire to overthrow/conquer. I merely do this as a means of preventing a potential catastrophe. Despite your fool-hardy lifestyle, you are still my family but if there comes a point, in which, one of us becomes a threat...we must be ready.'

Inspired by clips from Justice League: Doom. After some thought, Hephaestus is one of the few greek gods that has some morality and doesn't lose control. That being said, he is still imperfect and could still be a threat if left unchecked. So it would make since that he makes a weapon that can take him down as well.
